How to use props to support yourself in gentle yoga
Why you need this.
Stress isn’t actually that complicated, it’s a good case of “easier said than done“. Basically, when we are frightened – lets say you found a lion on your couch in the morning – your body jumps into the sympathetic nervous system – blood pumps faster (due to stress hormones) and your body is ready to fight or run. Hence the sympathetic nervous system’s other name, Fight or Flight Response. But once the immediate scare is over – the lion decides to leave – you can feel better again.
In our modern lives stress isn’t so cut and dry. When stress hangs around we get stuck in this fight or flight state, not only is this really bad for your physical body (weight gain, heart issues, etc), it does something to your brain too.
When you see the lion on the couch your awareness narrows – all you see is that lion until it is no longer a threat. When you are stressed in life but the end is not so clear cut, you still have the same reaction. You become self-obsessed. You start distrusting the world around you. When you feel unsafe and preoccupied with self, you become unable to forge and maintain healthy social connections. It affects your motivation and creativity. To be more creative, positive and motivated you MUST get rid of the stress.
